Spending your beach vacation on Hatteras Island? Pack in a fun island history lesson at the Graveyard of The Atlantic Museum and learn more about the culture that has shaped this beautiful place that we have all come to know and love.

Tucked in at the most southern end of the island, just beyond the ferry docks to Ocracoke, the Graveyard of the Atlantic tells the stories of some of the famous ships that have run aground on the shoals of our shores. You’ll get a taste of island life and what it was like living on Hatteras Island before modern conveniences came to the area. With several exciting and interactive exhibits, there is much to be seen and learned for both adults and children.

The museum boasts a wonderful film hall as well as several “Coastal Culture Programs”, lectures and much, much more! Be sure to put it on your to-do list in order to learn the history that makes your island home so special and rare!
