Discover the Sunken Treasures of the Outer Banks
The Graveyard of the Atlantic is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the rich maritime history of the Outer Banks and the roughly 3,000 known shipwrecks that rest off this coast. This section of the Atlantic Kitty Hawk to Ocracoke Island is known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic because it has one of the highest densities of shipwrecks in the world. Piracy, war, shoals/sandbards, and storms brought down many, many ships in Haterras Island’s long history.
Located in Hatteras Village, the museum also features a gift shop with books, souvenirs, household items, and more. Open Monday-Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
